I moved to the North West of England in November 2019 to find better opportunities for work.
Unfortunately, as you know, a little pandemic got in the way of that. I did however open my own business (and little shop); DD Practical – Bespoke Leathercrafts. This is my ‘side hustle’ of sorts and compliments my work in the Live Events and Theatre Industry beautifully. Need a heavy duty leather belt? Or perhaps a tool pouch? I’ve got you covered.
From August 2021, however, I am back on the circuit and available for work.
You can check out my recent timeline below.
There is no denying that I am passionate about the Arts. I love everything about it. I started off as a Technician at School back in 2003, followed by performance and Head Technician at another performance School in 2005. I then moved to Darlington and joined Darlington Operatic Society, where I got the opportunity to perform in Titanic the Musical.
Work commitments resulted in a permanent move to Backstage where I volunteered for 4 years as a stage hand whilst working closely with lighting designers and technical managers. I then progressed to being employed by Darlington Council as a Lighting Technician/Stage Hand and by Darlington Operatic Society as Production LX. This industry really does spark joy inside of me – lots of individuals do not get the chance to experience that when they go to work, and I am truly grateful for that.
I’m a bit of a Jack of all Trades. I predominantly work in Lighting as that’s what does it for me. However, I’m more than happy to dig in and help other departments out when needed. I have experience as a Followspot Operator, Production LX, Truck loading/unloading, Stage Crew, Wardrobe, Props, Scenic Artist, Set Dressing, Stage Door Keeper, Administration & Creative Content. Oh, I’m also a Leatherworker!
I am an exceptionally organised individual, who takes great pride in extraordinary customer service. With a ‘right first time’ attitude, I am committed to my personal and professional development and I am prepared to go the extra mile to ensure I can provide an extraordinary experience for everyone.
I have completed training in the below subjects;
– COVID-Safe Workplace
– Safety with Electrics
– Safe Use of Personal Fall Protection
– Working at Height
– Manual Handling and Back Care
– Brew Making
I am a holder of an IOSH Creative Industries Safety Passport and Safe Use of Tallescopes Certificate. I have current Public Liability Insurance and I’m a member of BECTU.
