Dave's Work History

Dave has been working in technical theater since 1994, when he attended a 'Backstage Workshop' at the Key Theater in Peterborough. Under the watchful eyes of the Stage Manager (Phill Bracy), Chief Electrician (Ian 'Jiff' Lemon) and resident Sound Engineer (Ian Anderson) Dave formed a firm grasp of many aspects of technical theatre ranging from stage management, through to set design, rigging, 'follow spotting', and of course live sound reinforcement.

Since then Dave has attended college achieving a BTEC in Electromechanical engineering and studied at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston for a BSc (Hons) in Media Technology. Whilst studying, both at college and for a degree, Dave engineered countless numbers of cabaret artists, local bands, small festivals and many theatre shows.

Since leaving full time education Dave has continued to engineer for bands and theatre groups. In the summer of 2001 he worked overseas for Tomson Holidays as a 'Thomson Gold Stage Technician'. In this capacity he was posted to Cyprus for 7 months and given the responsibility of providing sound and lighting for two venues in a 4-Star hotel (thankfully not both at the same time). His duties included maintaining the hotels sound, lighting and staging equipment. As well as operating the shows. Dave also acted as the Stage Manager. Early in the season Dave's technical skill and knowledge was recognized by the Thomson Management and was regularly called on to providing technical support for a further two Thomson Gold Hotels and a Thomson Supper Family Hotel on the island.

Although working overseas was enjoyable, Dave felt the urge to get back into theatre and in particular musical theatre. On his return to England Dave jumped straight back into panto at the Charter theatre in Preston, followed by numerous other dance and musical shows including 'Little Shop of Horrors'.

Dave is now Self employed as a freelance sound engineer and as such has engineered a 10 week UK tour of 'Spots Birthday Party' for Oxford Playhouse Productions in 2002. Dave has also been assistant sound engineer on 3 UK tours of Boogie Nights the musical(Qdos Productions). Other work includes the Blackpool Fireworks Display in 2002 and 2003, as well as the launching the new BMW 5 series in Blackpool.

Last Christmas saw Dave at the Civic Theatre in Darlington engineering 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' staring Sam Kane and Linda Lusardi, again a Qdos production. The 2003 /2004 Panto season has seen Dave returning to the Civic Theatre in Darlington for Goldilocks and the 3 bears staring Lesa Riely

Through his varied work Dave has become familiar with almost all types of professional sound equipment including to name but a few, Ashley Digital Graphics, the Yamaha O2R digital Desk, various Soundcraft mixers including the 4-2-8 digital, almost the full range of Alen and Heath desks including the GL and ML series, L'acoustic speaker systems, D&B speaker systems, Nexo speaker systems as well as countless other pieces of signal processing equipment.
